A little glimpse of spring is sprouting beneath the dormant plant life. The warmth of the day before melted into a gray winter day. I love the perspective in this shot of the up close plants and the historic building beyond.

This is another shot from Pioneer Park yesterday of my son in midair while jumping over a crevice in the "sugar loaf". I thought I'd have a little fun with it and colored it black and white and "flattened" it too. After that I took my trusty flood fill brush and colored in my son's pants, skin and hair. I love how he looks like a cartoon character added to a real backdrop.

We took a little jaunt up in Pioneer Park today, one of our favorite hiking spots. A park full of trails and slick rock, Pioneer Park is a favorite with families of all ages. I took this as we walking climbing to the top of the "Sugar Loaf" to survey the city. I love the fact that everyone was oblivious to my picture taking! ;0)

1-28-11 Flashback Friday

J. Lamb 2009
This flashback pic is from a couple of summers ago. We had taken a weekend trip up north and I found these two sacked out in the back seat. My boys are the best of buddies despite an almost 4 year age difference and I love how well they get along. I had to snap this picture!

It's Thursday again and I'm sharing a pic of one of my kids today, my baby in fact! My little Cub Scout cutie got his first shirt (thank you Grandma) and all the gear today and insisted he needed to try it on. I snapped a picture as he saluted and snapped a few more as he skipped away. I love how serious he looks in the top shot!

There once was a little boy who went with his Momma to the land of all things a dollar. Once he was there he found some Chinese finger traps and asked if he could have them. Momma said okay, not thinking anything more about it. The little boy got into the car ripped open the package and immediately got two sets of fingers trapped in the Chinese finger traps before Momma had even left the parking lot. Momma got out of the car, showed him how to free himself and helped get his fingers unstuck. Later as they were driving home Momma could here from the backseat, "Gee, I'm stupid...I have three sets of fingers stuck now!" and Momma couldn't help but to laugh a little. Once we pulled into the driveway the little boy yelled frustrated, "You better not take my picture!" Momma couldn't help it though and the little boy was sad. Momma felt bad for teasing her baby and made sure to give him a kiss all better. The moral of the story, do not get your fingers caught in Chinese finger traps when Momma has her camera in hand. ;0)

The sun sinking lower as the skyline swallows our burning orb for the night. I took a few minutes and layered the shot of the sun going down and behind the clouds that I took yesterday with a stock photo of flames I had on my computer over it. I colored the flames in a "golden" color and ran them over the sky and made it transparent so you can see the sky behind. I love the ethereal nature of the finished product.

As the day comes to a close, the serenity of a peaceful landscape bids me good night and beckons for my head to rest. I'll soar amongst the fluffy clouds and crisp blue skies o'er mountain tops and endless seas. And wake refreshed to run the endless race of tomorrow. I love the sun peeking from behind the fence post in this shot.

As you can see we've been having a little fun around here today! My kids are dressed as "Super Heroes" and I talked them into letting me take their pictures and having them all fly! This is all Photosuite magic today, I cut out each picture individually (tedious) and layered them over my shot of the sky. I love that all of them are still so imaginative! ;0)

Now at least my model today was cooperative, no whining, no blinking, no fidgeting! Actually, I have a sick little girl at my house and I don't feel all that hot either. I can't stand not doing SOMETHING and my daughter has made sure I've kept busy, even not moving all that much. I have been crocheting up a storm, including a dress and hat for her beloved Madam Alexander doll. I love that only my daughter would insist I take her picture too!

1-21-11 Flashback Friday

J. Lamb 2010
We didn't go too far back for the Flashback pic today, just to Oct. of last year. We were on our way back from a weekend trip to the cabin when we were greeted by the most brilliant display of fall colors! It's no secret that I love quaking aspens and I couldn't ignore the opportunity to snap a few pics. I love the brilliant blue sky in contrast to the orange and gold leaves of the "quakies".

It's Thursday and as promised I am sharing a picture of at least one of my kids, today it's my daughter. I normally try to take a picture for the day, but she is not feeling well and not appreciative of my camera today. Who can blame her? This is from this weekend as we walked to the local playground as a family and she was practicing her free throws. I love the determined look I captured on her face as she alighted with the pavement post ball hurdling toward the basket.

Don't we all wish we lived on Serenity Lane? Obviously, some people really do! I played around a bit with this shot and ran it through my Photosuite program. I considered actually turning the pic black and white, but I was in love with the azure sky in the background and went a different route instead. I "flattened" the photo and took my trusty "flood fill" tool and colored parts of the sign black to lend a different feel.

Yes, it's a self-portrait today. Not that I'm particularly found of snapping pics of myself or anything, but I'm following a guide to improve upon my photo taking skills...so be it! I actually take most of my own profile pics for facebook too! I wanted to show off my birthday present to myself, my new sterling silver and red coral ring...suweet!

This picture is from last evening with my family taking up the entire swing set at the playground. Each pic is of the same thing, but all with a different effect. The top would be the original, the next I ran a heavy contrast effect over the top. The third I kept the contrast effect and added a teal overlay and the last I  used my favorite "posterize" effect that casts a rainbow of color across the sky. Tell me, which is your favorite?

Absolutely one of the best things about where we live, is even though the calender says "January" the weather is beautiful and mild. We walked to the playground today before dinner and I captured my partner in crime as he walked our little dog toward the sinking sun. I love the elongated shadows in this shot and the man isn't too bad either! ;0)

I caught the tail end of the day bidding us adieu the other evening, the sun sinking to rest behind Utah Hill in the distance. We have had number of colorful sunsets and sunrises this last couple of weeks and it never ceases to amaze me the rainbow of color that happens in nature. I love that I live in such a picturesque setting!

1-14-11 Flashback Friday

J. Lamb 2008
This is such a great picture of my little monkey, he was 5 when I took this. I actually laid on the ground below him as he climbed the curved ladder above to snap this. He was so cute and this was right after he got glasses for the first time! I love how he insisted taking a stuffed animal with him everywhere, even as he played at the playground. Makes me want to rewind time and do it all over again! ;0)

J. Lamb 2011
I'm going to try an share a pic of my kids (or at least one of them) every Thursday and today it's my oldest. Curled up on the floor with his Math book is how we find him every day after school. He loves Math so much, he easily ignored me taking his picture! I took a minute to run this through my Photosuite  program and cleaned up the edges and over exposed it a tad before running a "posterize" effect over the top. I love the look of concentration on his face!

Aww...Red Mountain. You loom in the distance of my neighborhood landscape, as a sentry keeping watch over our dear Dixie in remarkable silence. I thought it would be fun to take a pic up close and took a few minutes to drive up to the base this afternoon. It's amazing that I am surrounded by such beauty every day!

God swept his paintbrush over the eastern skies this morning, giving the illusion of almost unnatural coloration. What a brilliant start to the morning! It's a pity that the day is so dreary and gray. How can you not love the graduation of color from bright fuchsia to pink and orange, down to the burning glow of our sun?

I had a little fun with my Photosuite program today and turned an ordinary picture of the afternoon sun peeking over the wall, into something a little more artistic. What I love about the picture is even though it looks like I took a print and ran it through the xerox machine, I was able to maintain the brilliant sunburst!

I ended up spending part of the day today with my partner in crime in the historic building he owns downtown. I was commissioned to snap some pics to attach to his business plan and snapped this one on the way out. I love the colors in the brick as they arch over the doorway. A quick note, I did take a quick sweep over the bumper of the truck with my clone brush (just to block the license plate).

I realized, as I was out running an errand this evening, that I had failed to post a picture for today. I was driving by a spectacular sunset we had this evening and in typical forgetful fashion I realized also, I didn't have my trusty camera. I beg your forgiveness, as I indeed shot this pic with my trusty camera phone, but I still love the burning sky above the city.

J.Lamb 2011
J.Lamb 2006
The original picture of my kids I took with my old standby 35mm camera I've had for ages. I actually scanned the print in my scanner and ran it through my Roxio editor. This is from the days before digital technology with preview screens and all that jazz so, I didn't realized the amount of shadow I was getting with the sun at the kids' back. The changes are subtle, but I overexposed it a tad and layered a warm tone over. The effect lends a bit of an aged quality to the picture and my kids were such babies then, I feel it's appropriate as well!

Muddy sneakers. I'm wishing the ground would dry up a little faster. My little boy's sneakers look like this daily when he arrives home from school...sigh. Amazing how the quality of the picture improved by me just flipping on an overhead light and clicking off the flash.

Remnants of old man winter's icy blast are left on our mountains in the distance. This is a trail head near by that provides a panoramic view of my side of the city. How funny is the green we've gained through weeks of rain and icy white snow besides?

As you can see, I spoke too soon about the lack of snow we have on the ground. It seems Mother Nature heard me...and followed suit! Silly snowman, wearing our dollar store items that I didn't care if they got trashed.

I visited my Mom today in her new house. She only lives 45 minutes away from me and where we have no idea what snow on the ground would be like, she has an abundance! I love the fence line running from the foreground into the distance.

365 projects a muck

J.Lamb 2011

J.Lamb 2010
Not that I'm much of a trend follower, but I've always been drawn to the idea of a 365 project, you know where someone shares a photo a day. This forces the project manager to improve upon their photo taking abilities and whatnot. Admittedly, I do not have a fancy camera by any means...just a digital, easy to use, camera. I wish I was well-to-do and able to afford such luxuries, but alas I am not. If you know me, you also know that I am not that easily deterred and feel the need to share irregardless of the feelings of others....SO, THERE! I'm kidding of course and I don't intend to just share photographs, I will share things I've created as well. Take the picture above for instance, is it real? No, but at first glance you can't really tell! I painted this for my Dad who has a birthday coming up and I painted it from a picture I actually did take, see above.
Here's to 2011 and points forward! May the year bring you all things wonderful!
